Genius Hour Blog - Week 6

Hello Friends!  Welcome back to 'Teaching with Miss G'. As always, it is so wonderful to 'see' you again! While I wrapped up my Genius Hour Series last week, I thought it might be beneficial to come back one final  time (for real, this time!) to do some self-reflection and comment on some areas of improvement. Before getting into this, I highly encourage you go check out the other five posts in this series on my blog - you can start with post one by clicking here . Reading these posts and looking through my Genius Hour Series Project  will provide some helpful context prior to reading this post. So without further adieu, let's jump into my final week - week six! As many of you already know, self-assessment is crucial to educators. As we encourage our students to reflect and engage in 'assessment as  learning', we should be doing the same throughout our teaching journey. This was my driving thought for completing another post in this Genius Hour Series . I le...

Hello Friends,      Welcome back to 'Teaching with Miss G'! It is so great to 'see' you again. It is hard to believe but we are officially on the final week  of my Genius Hour Series.  Time truly does fly! If you have not been keeping up with this series thus far, I recommend reading my previous four blog posts to get caught up to speed.      To provide a quick summary, for my Genius Hour Series , I came up with the driving question: How can I, as a future education, integrate literacy strategies into the classroom that equally benefit all  types of learners? My goal was to find hands-on, integrative literacy exercises that could be adjusted in the regular classroom for students with exceptionalities (including giftedness). I also wanted to find ways to incorporate interactive strategies for literacy both in virtual and face-to-face teaching contexts. Finally, I wanted to provide resources for other teachers that are hoping to create a more i...

Hello Friends! Welcome back to 'Teaching with Miss G'. It is great to 'see you' again! Thank you for joining me for week two of my Genius Hour Project series. Reading the first post in this series will help you follow along with all that I will be discussing in today's entry. So, without further adieu, let's get started! This week I delved deeper into the probing question for my Genius Hour series:  How can I, as a future educator, integrate literacy strategies into the regular classroom that equally benefit all types of learners? In order to effectively answer this question and in turn, meet the goals I set out for this project, I determined that researching the topic at-hand would be the best starting point. So I took to the web, and summarized findings for today's post. The major finding in my research was a concept and teaching approach entitled 'Universal Desi...

Genius Hour Blog Welcome Post - Blog Post #1

Hello there!  Welcome to my first blog post in the Genius Hour Project  series. My name is Emily Glencross and I am a first-year Consecutive Education Student at Brock University in the Primary/Junior stream. While I am new to teacher's college, I previously completed my undergraduate degree at Brock University. In 2019, I graduated from Brock University with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology.  Before I get down into the "nitty-gritty" of what I will be discussing and exploring in my Genius Hour series, I would like to spend a few more moments introducing myself and providing a few more details about me. So without further adieu, I will re-introduce myself as Emily! Hello and nice to 'meet' you. I am a 25-year-old female living in St. Catharines, Niagara. I was born in Ottawa however, I moved out to St. Catharines with my family around the age of 10 so I think of Niagara as 'home' (but Ottawa definitely has a huge place in my heart!). My hobbies includ...
